CSR Project Beginning to Bear Fruit:

BSV and Global Fruit Point give donation to Buxtehude Food Bank

Since last season, the sports club Buxtehuder SV and the company Global Fruit Point have been pursuing new paths in their cooperation. The first division handball team and the Buxtehude fruit trading company jointly support social projects in the Hanseatic city.

The first donation went to the Buxtehude Food Bank! Matthias Neuel, managing director of Global Fruit Point, handed over to St. Petri (Saint Peter’s) parish, a cheque for 4,000 euros which was gratefully received by superintendent Dr. Martin Krarup and Volker Lehmann, a volunteer of the Food Bank.

The donation is based on a simple model: Global Fruit Point donates fifty euros for each penalty converted during a home match of the first division handball team of Buxtehude. 63 penalties converted during the last season resulted in a sum of 3,150 euros, Global Fruit Point rounded up the donation to 4,000 euros and chose the Buxtehude Food Bank as beneficiary. The back player Friederike Gubernatis, one of BSV’s best penalty takers, made a significant contribution to the success of the action, scoring 26 goals “from the spot”.

The project continues during the present Bundesliga season. And more than that: it will even be extended! ”I would be pleased if more companies adopted this idea, increasing the amount per penalty“, Matthias Neuel said. In addition, it is planned to support at least two social projects at the end of the season, and the fans of BSV will participate in the selection of one of them.

Matthias Neuel, managing director of Global Fruit Point: “We are very pleased to support the Buxtehude Food Bank, because for many years this institution has been doing valuable work for the needy. Through the joint project with the handball players of BSV we can and want to give our support and draw attention to those initiatives that urgently need help and are not in the spotlight.”

Thorsten Sundermann, marketing director of Buxtehuder SV: ”Our first division team enjoys a high degree of popularity and acceptance in the city, and of course we make use of it also outside the sport activities. We are happy to have found in Global Fruit Point a partner for our CSR activities who is aware of social issues in Buxtehude and willing to address them together with the handball section of BSV.“

Dr. Martin Krarup, superintendent in Buxtehude: ”We are very happy about this generous donation and sincerely thank the company Global Fruit Point and BSV for it. This project is a fantastic idea, and hopefully other participants will join the initiative. Due to the social development of the last years, the financial needs of the Buxtehude Food Bank have risen continuously, therefore a support like this is very welcome.“

The Buxtehude Food Bank
The Buxtehude Food Bank collects “excess“ food that is of good quality but cannot be commercialized through retail channels anymore, giving it to needy people. Every week approx. 300 persons and families come to the food bank. About 40 supporters work as volunteers for the Buxtehude Food Bank.

Global Fruit Point
For years the internationally active fruit trading company based in Bahnhofstraße, Buxtehude, has been committed to helping children and needy people. The projects supported include the children’s hospice, Sternenbrücke in Hamburg, housing and education projects in South Africa, as well as the Súmate foundation in Chile. Together with the handball section of BSV, they specifically support projects in the city of Buxtehude.
