Iconic Brisbane Markets on the Monopoly board

Brisbane Markets has become one of the iconic landmarks to appear on the newly released, Brisbane edition Monopoly game, launched today at South Bank, Brisbane.

Brisbane Markets Limited (BML) staff members were present, with representatives from 21 other iconic Brisbane landmark sites which the community had voted it wanted to see appear on the board.

Mr Monopoly, the board’s famous moustached mascot, was on hand to raise the Brisbane Markets board image high to announce its inclusion, along with the help of Brisbane City Council Lord Mayor, Graham Quirk.

The company behind the board with the distinctively local flavour, Hasbro licensee Winning Moves, launched the search for the icons in April of this year and contacted BML after the voting was complete to choose a photo to appear on the game.

Brisbane Markets appears in the pink section, where Pall Mall appears on the original board, and is joined by Eagle Street Pier and Queen Street Mall in the same category.
Winning Moves business development manager Jason Cain emceed the launch, noting that Brisbane was the last Australian mainland state capital to get its own Monopoly board.

The last Australian version, based on Melbourne, sold 55,000 games, which the company hoped would be replicated in Queensland, placing Brisbane Markets, and 21 other iconic scenes, into the homes of families and their memories.

The game is now available in stores across Queensland in time for Christmas sales.
