Sweet persimmon popular in Asia

"The production season of the sweet persimmon started in August, and it is estimated to end in December. Generally speaking the sales volumes and market prices of our persimmon are relatively stable. The Mid-Autumn festival has weakened the fruit market a bit, but we predict that after a few weeks, the market will revive," says Mr. Liu Jingle, CEO of Shenzhen's Jintaihua company.

"Sweet persimmon is firm with a bright colour and sweetness up to 15 brix. In the past few years, persimmon got more and more approval from the consumer side for its quality and nutritional value. The sales volume is also constantly growing. Of the persimmons we cultivate under the 'Fuyoushi' home brand, 40% were transported by truck to Shenzhen harbour for selling at Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and others. The other 60% is sold in wholesale markets, large supermarkets and fruit chain stores in Shenzhen, Canton, Shanghai, Beijing and other first-tier cities."

Early sales in Hong Kong
"The number of Chinese persimmon cultivators has grown in recent years. But persimmon cultivation is demanding on the environment and the cultivation period takes up to 5 years. Furthermore, professional technology is required. As a result, many cultivators struggle to reach a precise cultivation of high quality. At present, our quality and services still place us at the head of the industry. In the Hong Kong market, the only persimmons that can compete with ours are those from Spain, Japan and South-Korea. But the differing selling period allows us to cleverly avoid the high tide of competition. Our persimmons go on sale in three waves, respectively two months, one month and a half and one month earlier than the Spanish, Japanese and Korean persimmons."

Lai Shenyou, Manager

"The company has 16 persimmon cultivation grounds at more than 1800 meters above sea level in provinces such as Fujian and Yunnan. The total area covers 4666 hectares. The good soil and the absence of pollution in these natural environments provides superior conditions to cultivate high quality persimmons."
