"The main idea was to work with all the main actors in the plastic crate sector (producers, collectors, recyclers and users) to create a closed cycle system." Conip can therefore supervise all aspects connected with crate production, collection and recycling.
Last year, the consortium managed to recycle 73% of the crates placed on the market. It mainly collects them from general and fresh produce markets (as 90% of the crates are used for fruit and vegetables). "We also have an agreement with Anci - Associazione Nazionale Comuni Italiani for those we cannot collect."

Each crate is cleaned and ground (extruded only in a few cases) and the material is then used to produce new crates. 70% of every crate manufactured within the Conip circuit is made up of recycled material.
All companies within our consortium are independent, though Conip supervises their activities. "We started with black crates, then continued with coloured ones and those for mixed goods. Now we work with almost 100 types, all of which were developed for a specific fruit or vegetable."

The consortium does not sell its crates, "but we promote their use as the products they are made of are guaranteed. Conip, in fact, uses a strict auditing system along the entire chain."
"We also carry out a series of prevention activities to reduce packet weight, promote secondary raw material, push members towards technological innovation and energy saving, as well as providing training."
