The principal exportable products in 2015 were: malt beer (2,545 M); tomato (1,818 M); avocado (1,649 M), with an increase in annual rate of 18.2%; tequila and mezcal (1,219 M); and live cattle (930 million pesos). A good example of this increase is tomato (fresh or refrigerated), which grew 22.7% in the same trimester of 2015. The main countries where these products are sold are the United States and Canada, with almost 600 M. Worldwide, Mexico is one of the leading countries in tomato sales, with 21% of global sales.
Mexico has more than 150 thousand of tomato producers, located mainly in the follow states: Sinaloa, Michoacan, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosi, Baja California Sur and Jalisco. Another fruit that has increased its sale rapidly is the “berries” (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and cranberries), which at the first trimester of the year were located in the third place of national agri-food exportations; just below avocado and tomato. Michoacan state is the number one producer of “berries” in Mexico.
Mexico has an important presence at international events in the world thanks to the Agency of Commercialization and Agricultural Markets Development (ACERCA) and PROMEXICO. Both organisations promote and investigate international markets in order to help the sale of Mexican agri-food products, through strategies for the global economy.
In the first trimester of this year agri-food exports reached 6.6% in annual terms, meaning 7,558 M. That was an unprecedented result, exceeding 1,596 M and Mexico has been represented in 150 countries, through its agri-food products.
