"New company with a lot of experience in blueberries"

Ed Olivier starts Edfruit

Blueberries are enjoying a rise in popularity. The antioxidants and other health benefits have hugely stimulated their consumption. In previous years Ed Olivier was involved in the buying and selling of blueberries for large producers. Ed has now decided that the time has come to start for himself. The name leaves few doubts: Edfruit.

"Blueberries have mostly dominated the last ten years of my life. I've almost exclusively sold blueberries during this period, as well as some blackberries and raspberries from various countries," says Ed. "But this fruit has my special attention, as I'm convinced there are lots of growing opportunities for blackberries and raspberries in Europe. Blueberries, however, will continue to determine most of my turnover."

"I work with a group of reliable suppliers in various production countries to ensure I can supply my customers with berries all year round. This was also one of the reasons to visit the Fruit Attraction in Madrid last week, where I spoke to a number of serious partner candidates," says Ed. "My competition is the established blueberry businesses, who have been serving their customers in the same, traditional way for years. I'm going to be doing it differently!"

"First of all my overheads are much lower, because Edfruit is only a small company. My customer contacts will also be one on one. I will have the conversations and make the deals and make sure the trade is supplied. And thirdly, all of my customers can get the berries in the packaging they want," explains the brand new director.

To do this Edfruit has entered into business with LBP Rotterdam, who will help him receive the fruit, provide the cooled storage and also the packaging in punnets, shakers or anything else.

"I have years of experience with the people at LBP and they are certainly the best in the area of berries and exotics in general," he added, explaining his choice of LBP. "In the future my focus will be on winning the trust of my suppliers and looking for customers who want to support my year-round programmes. Every supplier, even of organic berries, who are looking for reliable sales support in Europe can always get in touch!"
