Success for Moroccan red fruit exports

Red fruit exports increased by 21% over the 2015-2016 agricultural season, seeing volume reaching 96,000 tons.

A large part of the export volume comes from the Loukkos region. 4,000 hectares and 550 farms for red fruit production were recorded in the region in 2015-2016. The Regional Department of Agriculture lists: 3,000 hectares of strawberries, 500 hectares of blueberries and 500 hectares of raspberries. Small red fruits, both fresh and frozen, from Loukkos are exported to about 30 countries across the EU, to Asia, the Gulf, Australia, North Africa and Latin America. However, 90% of the total volume exported is consumed by just 6 countries within the EU.

The increase in red fruit exports is thanks to the Green Morocco Plan business strategy. In order to increase the Moroccan offer on international markets, a B to B mission was recently organised for Moroccan red fruit exporters and producers in London. The aim was to reinforce exports to the UK market, evaluate potential and British market needs and strengthen relationships between importers and red fruit distributors on the market. Many business deals where then concluded thanks to these meetings.
