Coliman Organics is currently the largest producer of organic bananas in Mexico, focused on production, development and marketing in the state of Colima. Coliman Organics are in addition to being organically certified, also FairTrade certified and were recently certified by Rainforest Alliance.
Coliman’s primary objective for 2017 is to increase production by 50% thus increasing their market share in the organic banana sector. Their growth has been in great part due to their sustainable growing practices.
In addition to organic bananas they also produce hot peppers and avocados from Michoacan and papaya from Coliman.
As a socially responsible grower they have their own nurseries where they grow their plants, so they control the organic growing process from seed to harvest.
Currently more than 80% of organic banana production is exported from Mexico to other countries, primarily to Europe, the United States and New Zealand. However they are developing new markets for organic bananas in Asia, like Japan and Korea, which have traditionally been importers of conventional bananas.
October marks the beginning of their production of a variety of peppers harvested in La Costa of Hermosillo, Sonora, which will be available in Nogales, Arizona from October to December. In Sinaloa they have similar production from December to March, then once again back to La Costa of Hermosillo in April, finalizing their production in June. As with all their products, their peppers also have Primus GFS certification.
