Honeydew
As weather conditions have allowed for promising production volumes and quality, starting October 3rd, Mas Melons & Grapes is back with a fairly good supply of premium quality honeydew melons from Caborca, Sonora, for their diverse portfolio of customers in the United States, Europe, Oceania and Asia, with peak production by the middle of October, and available towards the end of November. Then, around November 20th, the supply will come from Hermosillo, Sonora all the way to the end of December, when Tecoman, Colima production of honeydew melons is expected to begin, with availability until the last week of April, followed by Caborca, which is estimated to start again the first week of May and to end by the last week of June.
“Currently, all of our honeydew melons are grown under ideal climate conditions and harvested using the most advanced sugar-testing technology, yielding brix levels of 10+, and sometimes as high as 15”, said Miky Suarez, president at Mas Melons & Grapes, LLC.
Watermelon
“On watermelons, the Hermosillo, Sonora harvesting season is expected to start between the first and second week of October, and continue with a steady volume all the way towards the end of November or the first week of December”, said Mikee Suarez, Sales Representative at Mas Melons & Grapes, LLC.
Guaymas, Sonora is expected to have watermelons available only during the last week of December and the first week of January, when Tecoman starts production, continuing until the last week of March, and right before when the Guaymas production comes back again from the beginning of April to the middle of May. Then the watermelon production out of Hermosillo comes back again from the middle of April to the end of June.
“As far as quality, our customers can certainly expect nothing but the freshest and more flavorful watermelons from our growers”, Mikee added.
Asparagus
The production of asparagus out of Obregon, Sonora started the first week of October for over six or seven weeks until the third week of November, and comes back again the last week of January, while the asparagus production out of Caborca, is expected to start between the middle of January and the first week of February, all the way through the middle of April, when Obregon production comes back again and is expected to continue until the middle of May.
“Fortunately, Newton hurricane passed by too fast through the Northwest and did not have any major effect on our crops,” said Miky. “So far, the weather looks pretty good throughout the entire season,” Miky added.
