"It is the first step to try and safeguard local potatoes with the PGI brand," explains Raffaele Torti, co-owner of Torti Patate.
At the moment, the produce is available in 1.5 and 2 kg bags. It is destined mainly to central Italy, where it is already popular for its characteristics.
There is no specific use advertised on the packet as multiple varieties are certified as PGI. They will be divided only after market analysis or if specifically required by clients.
"Our clients are happy that the potatoes they buy have the PGI mark. The produce from our area is finally getting the recognition it deserves."
For a more detailed assessment of the campaign, though, we will have to wait for harvesting to be over (late October).
