In addition to the trials there were 36 companies exhibiting their products and services, ranging from crop protection, to machinery and including pack house grading and cooling equipment. British Carrot Growers Chairman, Rodger Hobson said “This unique event brings together grower, packers and the wider carrot industry to see the latest developments in varieties and machinery. It has something for everyone and, with the numbers attending, it shows how important it is for UK carrots. In my opinion this is the best event we have ever held.”
In addition to the UK industry there were visitors from France, Italy and Eastern Europe and the Netherlands. There was a competition to find the best variety in show, put forward by the seed companies, and this was won by Rijk Zwaan variety “Fidra RZ” and the prize was collected by Keith Stephens.
Details of next year’s event will be announced when the host site is confirmed in the coming months.
