Special new snack carrots with everyone in mind

This year marked the first year that Danish company, Northern Greens, had their own stand at Fruit Attraction 2016 in Madrid. The company recently launched a new line out of Scandinavia and Germany of snack carrots and CEO Jørgen Nielsen and Sales Director Søren Hansen were out at the beginning of the day on Wednesday, handing out their snack carrots to event visitors to make sure that as many people as possible had the chance to taste them.

Jørgen said that he felt that the event was the perfect location to look for new partners to sell their snack carrots, and of course for their many other products as well.

"We will be starting in three different markets in the next three weeks. The German market is a big one and have been really receptive, but we are also interested in finding new partners, both for our organic and conventional vegetables."

The snack carrots that Northern Greens offers are different to traditional snack carrots already found on the market. While other snack carrots are usually just smaller versions of a regular carrot, these carrots are grown specifically for this purpose.

"The carrots are grown in the field and we remove the tops and then cover them in the Autumn, so we are able to be harvest all the way through to the end of May. Every bag is collected by hand, it is also a lot of work because the carrots have to be collected very quickly during the colder periods so the carrots do not become frozen." said Jørgen.

"The carrots are also really thin which consumers prefer when snacking. The variety and the way of washing and growing them a sweeter and nicer flavour. They are washed 6 times, you can actually eat them as is, but we still advise consumers to wash them. If they are processed as convenience, you are limited to the cooling area and these new snack carrots are able to be put anywhere, and have a shelf life of one week."

While many companies have been specifically targeting children when it comes to healthy snacking, Jørgen feels that their offering fits well into the push for a healthy lifestyle for everyone. Some supermarkets has already started placing the carrots next to the cash register area as an alternative to the unhealthy items such as candy or cigarettes.

"I am pleasantly surprised about how positive people have been about the product. I am happy to say that once people try them, they go out and buy more and more. The even better news it that it's healthy!" concluded Jørgen.
