Photo report - Network reception at embassy during Fruit Attraction

As part of the Fruit Attraction trade fair, the Embassy of Madrid organised a network reception. More than 100 Dutch and Spanish entrepreneurs were present. During his welcoming speech, the ambassador of Bonzel indicated the enormous potential for collaboration between the two countries, which are competitors on the fresh produce market.

By now, Spain has caught up with the Netherlands as an exporter of fresh fruit and vegetables, and is the most important exporter of fresh produce globally. Spain accounts for around 13 per cent of the total cross-border movement of fresh fruit and vegetables. Considering value, Spain is the number one in both fresh vegetables and fresh fruit globally.

A speech was made by José M. Pozancos from the Spanish sector, who, besides trade cooperation, mentioned the necessity of standing firmly together to achieve policy objectives in Brussels. To have unequivocal rules that are the same for each European country in order to prevent imperfect competition. José M. Pozancos had talks with the Dutch ministry to develop common trade agreements.

Ad Klaassen, of GroentenFruit Huis, was the voice of the Dutch exporters. He mentioned that the development of the Fruit Logistica in Berlin started small. He sees the same thing happening in Madrid - the Fruit Attraction grows by 20 per cent each year. The fair has proven itself as a platform for the international fruit and vegetable trade. North and South meet each other at this fair that takes place at an ideal time, between the changing of the seasons. He also emphasised the continuing success of the so-called ‘Dutch Day,’ which has been held for more than 20 years already. The next ‘Dutch Day’ will take place in Almería, Spain, on 17 November 2016.
