Mexico: Puebla wants to ship its products to the US and Europe

The eighth edition of the Expo Horticola 2016, will be held in Los Reyes de Juarez between October 6 and October 8, and is expected to attract 15,000 visitors and over 200 producers of different vegetables from the region. It will showcase greenhouses, more than 20 demonstration plots, machinery, agricultural implements, and there will be conferences and workshops.

Mayor, Rafael Ramos Bautista, is confident that this year the region will be able to market its products to the US, European, and Central American markets, having recently signed agreements with entrepreneurs from New York and Paraguay.

Governor, Jose Cruz Reynoso, said the main goal of the exhibition was to bring producers in direct contact with the suppliers and buyers from various parts of the country, and other nations, and to avoid intermediaries.

He said that Los Reyes de Juarez is the number one locality in the state dedicated to the marketing of vegetables, and that together with the 45 municipalities in the area they produce 700,000 tons of various vegetables each year, mainly of cilantro, broccoli, squash, lettuce, celery, cauliflower, tomatoes, peppers, habanero peppers, and eggplant.

30 percent of the production is exported to markets like McAllen and New York in the United States, Paraguay, and, according to local authorities, they will soon start exporting their products to Canada and England, stated the mayor.

Ramos Bautista said, 45 municipalities in the region, including this one had opted for the modernization and restructuring of their fields, as well as to improve the seed of various products.

He said that this had enabled them to obtain quality products that had allowed them to reach international markets. 95 percent of the total population of Los Reyes de Juarez is dedicated to agriculture, mainly of vegetables, and they increased exports by 15 percent in the last year.
