French apple grower sees Asia as crucial market

A French apple grower used the ongoing Asia Fruit Logistica in Hong Kong to have one-on-one conversations with its current and potential clients in Asia.

La Blottière group, a grower of more than 20 varieties of apples and pears, which supplies apples under the Apple Bird brand name, has taken the opportunity to promote its two most famous products: the pear Sweet Sensation, and its newest kid in the block, the Antarès® apple. “Antarès® is an authentic new variety produced in the Loire Valley, France,” said Camille Grillon from La Blottière.

The apple which is round and wide in shape, bears a red-orange hue and is streaked between 40-60% of its' surface. “Antarès® offers a perfect balance between sweet and delicately acid flavours and is rated among the best varieties of apple for its gustative qualities. The apple is also easy to handle as it can be stored over long periods of time.”

Crucial Asian markets
Europe, Asia and Middle East are some of the destinations where the apple has a huge market. According to La Blottière group, South-East Asia, Hong-kong and Taïwan are some of its most crucial regions where market for its fruits is huge.

In terms of volume however, its Gala variety is the most popular, even though the demand for other varieties has been on the rise over the years.

“The company already has a strong footing in Asia, and we hope the demand for our apples will continue to rise in the region as it has committed more resources to developing the market.” This year, marketing activations have already been carried out in Taiwan.

There are also plans to increase the Gala variety production which accounts for 35% of its production volume. Already, there’s a young orchard in progress.
