US: 6 Winn-Dixie stores to become Harveys
Southeastern Grocers received 26 sign permits Friday for the six stores it intends to convert from its Winn-Dixie banner to Harveys. However, “Harveys” is not on any of the permits issued to date, although the Jacksonville-based company applied last week for certificates-of-use that state it will convert the six locations to that banner. Carrefour readies for May IPO of Brazil unit
French retailer Carrefour SA, plans to take its Brazilian unit public in May, a newspaper reported on Monday, citing a reliable source. Brazilian daily, Valor Economico, said Carrefour expected the market for Brazilian initial public offerings to open in the first few months of next year, but the company wants to wait until the second quarter to ensure strong operating indicators. US: Giant Eagle to consolidate supply chain to single platform
Manhattan Associates, Inc. announced that Giant Eagle has implemented Manhattan's Transportation Management System (TMS) as part of a larger business strategy to build a next-generation supply chain on a single platform. The implementation simplifies the retailer's IT infrastructure by reducing the number of systems from five to one. (nasdaq.com)

Ireland: Spar/Eurospar network to be expanded
BWG Foods, the wholesaler and retailing company, plans to add a further 20 Spar and Eurospar outlets to its network of 450 in Ireland over the next 12 months. BWG chief executive Leo Crawford made the announcement on Monday. (irishtimes.com)

At least four private equity funds eye Italy’s Esselunga

At least four private equity funds are in talks to buy a majority stake in Italy’s fourth largest supermarket chain, Esselunga, in a deal worth up to €6m, market sources told Reuters. The negotiations, managed by Citigroup, started a few months ago, before the passing away of Esselunga founder, Bernardo Caprotti. UK-based BC Partners is one of the two funds that have recently entered the race and they are allegedly prepared to offer more than Blackstone and CVC Capital Partners. (esmmagazine.com)

US: Rouses acquiring LeBlanc's, expands in Baton Rouge
Rouses Supermarkets said over the weekend that it was acquiring LeBlanc's Food Stores, a family-run company operating nine stores in the Baton Rouge area. Rouses said it intended to rebrand the stores, currently doing business under the LeBlanc's and and Frais Marche banners, under the Rouses name this month. A purchase price was not disclosed. Carrefour Spain Online supermarket has been awarded the Webshop prize in the supermarkets and hypermarkets category for the second year running. Finland: K-Group customers concerned about food wastage, study finds
A survey, carried out by Finnish retailer K-Group in August this year, has found that around 70% of K-Plussa customers worry about food wastage. The survey was part of a 'responsibility programme', aimed at reducing the food wastage generated by the group's stores by 10% by the year 2020. Of around 500 respondents, 69% worried most about the environmental impacts of food wastage, whereas 25% of the respondents were more worried about the money they wasted. (esmmagazine.com)
