Abel Alarcon, Brio Fruits:

"Even though the Clemenrubi is very small this year, sales are good"

"We started to collect the Clemenrubi, an early variety that we consider has a higher quality re color and taste, two weeks ago" said Abel Alarcon, manager of Agrios Selectos, which is best known for its flagship brand Brio Fruits.

"This year, the sizes of the Clemenrubi are very small because of the drought. We thought we were going to have more complications selling this product, but the fruit is coming out at a good pace and demand is above supply," he added. "Despite the gauge problems, the fruit's internal and external quality is good," he said.

The company, from Valencia, earmarks this variety for the markets of Central and Northern Europe. According to the producer and exporter, prices, so far, are lower than last year for several reasons.

"On the one hand, the weather at destination is not as we expected and it's still not cold enough to incentivise sales. Additionally, production will be larger this year and, if we take into account the smaller sizes we have, we can not expect to achieve the prices we had last year. So far, however, the average price is acceptable," he said.

Brio Fruits will begin collecting the Oronules variety soon and, in late October or early November, the Clemenules variety. "We hope this week's rain will help the fruits, coming in the next few months, to be fatter and have a bigger size; otherwise, we could have problems," he stated.

In addition to oranges and tangerines, Brio Fruits also package other products such as lemon, persimmon, watermelon, cantaloupe, avocado, mango, stone fruit, etc. under their brand

Presentation of the Naranja de Valencia and Mandarina de Valencia brands
In a joint project with the IGP Citricos Valencianos (Citrus from Valencia) and two registered citrus trading companies, Brio Fruits will launch the Naranja de Valencia and Mandarina de Valencia trademarks at the Fruit Attraction on October 5 at 13.30 at the stand of the Ministry of Agriculture of Valencia, No. 8E09.

"With this brand we want to guarantee that the origin of the citrus is 100% from Valencia and that they meet the quality criteria of the IGP and other more demanding parameters. Their organoleptic qualities distinguish them from other sources," Abel Alarcon stated.
