Lemon crop back to normal and grapefruit stable

Ailimpo has reviewed the lemon and grapefruit forecast for this 2016/2017 season confirming the figures released previously in July. The main conclusion is that lemon crop goes back to normal volumes achieved in the past, while grapefruit production remain stable. Spanish sector will continue consolidating its status as the EU's bellwether supplier in terms of quantity, quality, food safety and excellent service.

Season starting

Lemon campaign has just begun with the first lemons harvested but activity is still quite low because of the heavy stocks form the Southern Hemisphere (SH). Full activity is expected to come gradually during October, pointing out that Spanish primofiori lemon is a fresh and high quality one, much better that the SH lemon, with severe quality conditions problems.

In the case of grapefruit, activity will develop from the second part of October onwards, consolidating its position in the market where a significant drop of volumes from Florida and Israel is expected.
