Spain: Valencian citrus sector celebrates creation of brand Naranja de Valencia

Valencia's citrus sector has celebrated the official launch of the brand Naranja de Valencia (Orange from Valencia); a project led by the Protected Geographical Indication, Cítricos Valencianos, in partnership with the Association for the promotion of the collective brand, Naranja de Valencia, which aims to promote oranges and mandarins grown and processed in Valencia and protected by the PGI.

According to José Barres Gabarda, president of the PGI Cítricos Valencianos, "Naranja de Valencia and Mandarina de Valencia are the brands created by the PGI with the goal of promoting them as symbols of the quality of Valencia's citrus fruits."

"The PGI Cítricos Valencianos grants the Association for the promotion of the collective brand Naranja de Valencia, the right to use the brands Naranja de Valencia, Mandarina de Valencia, Valencia Orange and Valencia Clementine. There will be a single marketing channel, Original Valencia SL, which will be the only company authorised by the association for the marketing of these brands," explains Barres Gabarda.

Moreover, the president of Naranja de Valencia, Abel Alarcón, stated that "the Association is formed by the PGI Cítricos Valencianos and three companies registered at the PGI: Agrios Selectos SL, Germans Fuster SL and Tresfrut SL."

Alarcón also notes that "the companies that make up our association are defined by their long experience in the marketing of citrus. Our commitment to quality and service has led us to collaborate with leading distribution companies in Spain and abroad. We have over 100 years of experience in the marketing of citrus and a packaging capacity of over 50 million kilos of fruit per campaign."

In this same context, the head of the new brand pointed out that "of the 44 orange and mandarin varieties authorised by the PGI Cítricos Valencianos, only the best will be sold under these brands; that is, 16 orange and 13 mandarin varieties, which meet even higher quality requirements than those set by the PGI itself."

The brand logo and the packaging have been designed by the prestigious Valencian designer Lavernia y Cienfuegos, who has managed to create an elegant and modern brand, which also manages to respect the sector's traditional style.

Presence at Fruit Attraction 2016
Naranja de Valencia will be at Fruit Attraction 2016, at stand 8D09K, and will hold the official presentation of the new brand at the stand of the Ministry of Agriculture, No.8E09, on 5 October at 13.30 h.
