Peru promotes its superfoods in New York

The Peruvian Avocado and Blueberry Associations joined efforts to further promote Peru's long tradition as a global supplier of superfoods.

On September 18, Peru Agribusiness Association Inc. (PAA), headed by Peruvian President, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, received more than 600 people at the fifth edition of the Peru to the World Expo in New York.

In addition to having the president as a guest of honour, the event featured a variety of Peruvian cultural and culinary events. The event was also the stage where the Peruvian Avocado and Blueberry Associations made a partnership for the first time, to launch the new "Superfoods from Peru" brand.

"This event highlights the Peru's rapid rise as a main travel destination for cultural and culinary activities in the world," said Xavier Equihua, CEO and president of the Peruvian Avocado Commission (PAC). "We are grateful that President Kuczynski could join us to celebrate the Peruvian culture and the wide variety of amazing superfoods that Peru has to offer the world."

The Peru to the World Expo was also attended by Jose Antonio Gomez, from Camposol Trading, the award-winning chefs known as the Peruvian Brothers, and the Peruvian Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Eduardo Ferreyros, who highlighted the role of agriculture in Peru, the country's second most important export after minerals.

The PAC stated that "Peru has provided super foods to the world for more than 5,000 years and there are very few countries that can match its distinction of being a net producer of super foods."

Peru is the global leader in super foods and healthy eating, not only because it is the second largest producer of Haas avocados and blueberries in the world, but also because of its numerous other super foods, such as pomegranates, figs, tangerines, grapes, coffee and cocoa.
