La Minita Fresh expands with sweet corn, and pepper programmes
In its second year as an exhibitor, La Minita Fresh will use the upcoming PMA Fresh Summit event to tout their expanded sweet corn and pepper programmes. Like the rest of their product offerings, the shipper will source its sweet corn from Mexico and distribute it throughout the United States.
“We're currently receiving hot peppers from Mexico, and we'll have some sweet corn from Jalisco in about a month,” said La Minita's Jose Duran. “We're shipping the hot peppers to the East Coast and the Midwest, and we know both California and New York consume a lot of sweet corn.” The variety that the shipper will import from Mexico is a hybrid variety that is purported to be very sweet. The grower with whom La Minita is collaborating gets his seeds from Champion Seed, and the particular supersweet variety is already sold in the U.S. and has performed well.
Though the company's main commodities are mangos and persian limes from Mexico, Duran said they want to use this year's Fresh Summit to spread the word about their expanded product line and connect with clients.
“We exhibited last year for the first time and we did it to put our name out there,” he said. “This year, it will be tell everyone that we're still here.”
