Venezuela: Guajira harvests 10 million kilograms of melon

Producers of melon in the Guajira subregion, in the western state of Zulia, harvested 10 million kilos of melon thanks to the Great Safe Supply Mission and the thrust of the agricultural food engine.

Carlos Ernesto Portillo, director of the Ministry of Popular Power for Agriculture and Lands, and secretary of Agricultural Development of Zulia, said the harvest of this fruit was being distributed in Zulia and in the Coche, Valencia and Merida markets, among others.

"There were more than 300 planted hectares that produced 10 million kilos of melon that are being sold in the state and in markets of other entities in the country," noted Portillo, who also stated that farmers and producers of the entity have enthusiastically joined the call, made by president Nicolas Maduro. Additionally, he said, the ministry and the national government are providing technical assistance and support in the distribution of the harvest of different products.
