"The new variety of early yellow kiwifruit - Maurizio e Giampaolo Dal Pane affirmed – is the result of research at the Universities of Bologna and Udine. Our goal is to plant 1,000 hectares in the northern hemisphere and 1,000 in the southern."

The four salespersons of the companies who founded the Dorì Consortium are: Dal Pane, Alessandro Zani, Gualtiero Rivoira e Luis Clementi who said that they set up the consortium because Dorì is a product deserving to be appreciated.

Technicians, farmers and operators from all over Italy as well as other countries (Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, France, Spain, Turkey) attended the event.

One of the founders, Professor Guglielmo Costa, gave a speech about the AC1536 variety from an agronomic point of view. "It germinates 5 days earlier then the Hayward variety, blooms 10 days earlier and ripens 35 days earlier. It is the earliest variety of kiwifruits. Average weight is 100 gr (taking into account the last 5 years). It is elongate, its flesh is intensely coloured, its preservation after the harvest is excellent". In this way, "Farmers can organise and extend the harvest up to 40 days", Costa states.

Kiwifruits must be available 12 months a year, thus, we need partnerships with countries in the southern hemisphere. "We are pleased to host Dorì", says Luis Calvo, foreign producer, 33, from Chile. "We are sure that the product will positively affect the markets thanks to its sensational qualities and it will meet producers' economic needs. In Chile a company spreads over 100 hectares and this allows cost abatement".

As for performance, Giampaolo Dal Pane affirmed that this variety can produce more than 40 tons per hectare, but to keep up with high standards this amount should be viewed as a maximum. It is suitable to be exported to Asia because of its clear skin and its refrigerable qualities. .

"Before building a plant - Dal Pane suggested - producers should assess the ground, irrigation waters, evaluate temperature and winds and logistics".

"The taste quality of Dorì is excellent. But to guarantee production we have to protect the plants. We advise farmers to cover them with anti-hail nets, especially the yellow ones, which advances the ripening".

Valente Pali, Agrintech, also took part in the event as partner for the Iridium and Unitec chromatic photo-selective nets.
