"Heavily involved in sustainable sourcing through organic and Fairtrade projects"

This month the Soil Association have actively been promoting all things organic with their campaign, ‘Organic Your September’- Eat, Drink, Use and Choose Organic.

The campaign highlights the benefits of buying organic products and the positive impact that this can have.

For Allfresch and their partner Fairtrasa however, highlighting organic produce and sustainability in the fresh produce sector is not only a passion but is of ongoing and significant importance

"At Allfresch Group we are heavily involved in sustainable sourcing through organic and Fairtrade projects and, as a result, we take our social and environmental responsibilities very seriously," explained a spokesperson for Allfresch.

"Through our partnership with social enterprise Fairtrasa, we have worked with suppliers of organic, organic Fairtrade and Fairtrade produce across Latin America for many years now and we have witnessed first hand the positive impact that this alternative method of agriculture can have on people’s lives and the environment- whilst still being commercially viable!"

Fairtrasa is a global social enterprise that empowers marginalised, small-scale farmers to lift themselves out of poverty with their award winning ‘Three Tier Development model.’ The model was created as part of the understanding that, in the developing world, not all small-scale farmers are at the same level of development.

In 2010 Fairtrasa expanded its operations from supply and development to become a global enterprise, creating a vertically integrated supply chain with a large sales network across Europe.

It was during this expansion that Allfresch joined forces with Fairtrasa to help further develop organic and Fairtrade markets in Europe.

The partnership was born from a shared set of ideals -
"to supply high quality produce from across the globe to our varied clients in an honest and sustainable way."

As part of this commitment Allfresch/Fairtrasa Europe, supports grower’s efforts by achieving fair and competitive prices, preserving annual volume stability, respecting commercial agreements and providing support and development where possible.

Benefits of a Verticaly Integrated Business Model

"The relationships and the investments that we have made as a group allow us to act as a grower representative. This means that we can bring the end consumer closer to the source and provide a direct line of communication.

"Working with a variety of customers allows us to utilise the whole crop from our producers, which allows volume efficiencies.

With sources across several countries and a customer base across 5 continents, we are able to react quickly to the market variations at both ends of the spectrum.

The combination of the above enables Allfresch to offer an extremely competitive and attractive offer to customers, whilst ensuring that growers are benefiting from their hard work.

"For us, our partners and customers, Organic September is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness for organic produce and reminds us of our passion and commitment to work towards a more sustainable future."
