From January to July

Peru: Agricultural exports increase by 2%

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Minagri), agricultural exports between January and July this year reached 138 market destinations and amounted to 2.702 billion dollars, i.e. 2% more than in the same period of 2015.

In the same period, the country registered a trade surplus of more than 465 million dollars because traditional agricultural exports recovered by 9%. 

Additionally, some markets increased their purchases, such as Costa Rica (48%), Colombia (41%), Denmark (33%), Panama (31%), Spain (30%), the Netherlands (19%), England (10%), and France (10%).
 
During this period, two of the stand-out products on the international market were fresh onions, which grew by 98%, and dried paprika, which increased by 27%.

Other products that increased were fresh avocados (24%), and Cavendish Valery bananas (12%), among others.
 
Traditional exports
The Minagri also stated that traditional agricultural exports between January and July totaled 234 million dollars, i.e. 9% up on in the same period of last year.
 
More markets
Agricultural exports between January and July this year reached 138 countries, and the United States was the main destination, accounting for 26% of total exports.

The Netherlands was the second most important destination with 16%, and was followed by Spain (7%), England (5%), Ecuador (4%), Germany (4%), Colombia (4%), Chile (3%), China (3%), and Canada (2%). These ten countries accounted for 74% of the country's sales.
 
The commercial agrarian trade balance between January and July was positive by 465 million of dollars, as total exports amounted to 2.702 billion dollars and total imports amounted to 2.237 billion dollars. 

This figure is the result of the higher volume of cranberries (234%), clementines (127%), and avocados (13%), among other products, placed abroad.
 
This trade balance shows that the country recovered by 82%, compared to the same period of 2015.

Shipments in July
The total value of agricultural exports in July amounted to 458 million dollars, and the fastest growing products were the clementines (106%), and prepared asparagus (45%), among others.

The Minagri, recalled that the country's goal was to double agricultural exports by 2021 so that they will reach 10,000 million dollars.
