Packaging is everything for potatoes

"Tubers are not a product consumers can taste before they buy them, so packaging is essential," explains Torti Patate co-owner Raffaele Torti.

While still waiting for a response from the Ministry for Agricultural Policy concerning the approval of the Statute of the Fucino IGP Consortium, packaging companies such as Torti Patate are already developing packaging with the PGI mark.

"60% of the early varieties have been harvested. Produce is homogeneous and quality is similar to previous years. Demand is good but comes entirely from the domestic market. We are working well in central and southern Italy, while there is more competition in the north."

According to Raffaele, Italian consumers have a strong connection to the local territory and produce and are more willing to buy what they are familiar with. In addition, they are becoming more aware of sustainable options. "We received good feedback for our paper packaging for Avezzano potatoes."

"Packaging makes all the difference when it comes to potatoes, because it provides information that can help customers make a choice. Even though packaging can be expensive, what it is written on it is even more important as, to retain customers, the product must keep the promises made on the packet."

Torti Patate will attend Macfruit (hall D5 - stand 071) with a 64 sq m stand. The event will be the occasion to launch the new purple potato packet.

The entire staff will attend the fair to welcome guests. "We have been part of the event for ten years and look forward to meeting you!"
