Training course on overseas shipments at Nord Ovest Spa

On 9th August 2016, Nord Ovest Spa, a leading company in the international fruit container shipment sector, held a refresher course on overseas exports of fruit and vegetables in reefers.

Eugenio Mellano, one of the owners, explained that "as the goods we deal with are perishable, any problem must be solved quickly. Dealing with technically prepared and updated personnel enables us to resolve most of the problems quickly and even to avoid them altogether. We decided to organise the course mainly to improve our know-how and then we made the material available to our clients through a multimedia platform."

The first part of the meeting was held at the intermodal terminal, where a "PLUG IN" and a "VGM STATION" were recently inaugurated. The former makes it possible to keep the containers' temperature-stable and to load them on different days than the usual "cut off" days. The VGM station guarantees certified weighing.

In addition, there is also an SOT at the Cuneo customs office, so any export operation can be carried out more rapidly so the goods arrive "ready to be load". This way, Nord Ovest will be more efficient and flexible.

The second part of the course was held in the conference room, where all the theoretical/practical issues useful to improve the personnel's know-how, were discussed. Clients could assist via streaming and interact with Maersk Line experts via a live chat. The last part of the course was dedicated to cold treatment.

Mellano would like to thank Marco Cervioni (intermodal coordinator Maersk Line) and Enrico Cau (sales manager Maersk Line) for the competence with which they illustrated the main aspects of the construction technique, and the functioning and setting of reefer and cold treatment units.

Massimo Delpozzo (Chief sales officer) stressed that "talking to some of our clients, we learned about their need to know even the most basic information in order to be more efficient. We set up the course so as to share information with them. There are so many variables in the shipment sector, not only regarding transfers, but also technical, legal, phytosanitary and bureaucratic aspects, that our clients need to be updated and informed on."
