Sunrype to supply Alibaba
Alibaba Group and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau launched Tmall Global’s newest country pavilion on Saturday at the company’s Hangzhou, China headquarters, creating a cross-border e-commerce channel that will make it easier for Chinese consumers to purchase from leading Canadian brands. The Canadian Pavilion joins 18 other pavilions currently on Tmall Global, including those of Japan, New Zealand, Spain and the U.S., where Chinese consumers can gain access to products otherwise unavailable from those countries via e-commerce. UK: Morrisons to slash fruit and veg prices

Morrisons is to cut prices on meat, fruit and vegetables this week amid a backdrop of falling food prices. The supermarket said it would be trimming prices on nearly 160 products by an average 12%, in the latest round of its Price Crunch campaign. The latest move comes just a month after Morrisons trimmed the price of more than 1,000 products, including toiletries and seasonal fruit and vegetables, by an average of 18%. (theguardian.com)

Sainsbury's completes acquisition of home retail group
J Sainsbury plc has announced that it has successfully completed its acquisition of Home Retail Group plc – the owner of Argos and Habitat. "The combination of Sainsbury’s and Home Retail Group creates one of the UK’s largest food and non–food retailers, offering customers over 90,000 products in over 2,000 stores and across market leading digital channels, employing 195,000 colleagues across the UK and Ireland." Spain: Consum grows presence through franchised stores
Consum has announced that it has opened 15 franchised stores in H1 2016, which it says means it has completed 56% of the new stores it was aiming to add in the whole year. The 15 stores have been opened in Valencia, where it has added six, Catalonia, four, Murcia, three, and two in Castilla-La Mancha. The retailer has said that the new stores will underpin its expected revenue growth for 2016, where it is forecasting a 9% rise to more than €203m. (igd.com)

Greek: Marinopoulos agrees restructuring plan with creditors, rival group
Greek supermarket operator Marinopoulos on Saturday agreed with its creditors and rival supermarket chain Sklavenitis the terms for restructuring its business, Sklavenitis said, in a first step to salvaging the company from bankruptcy. The deal allows banks and supermarket chain Sklavenitis to offer Marinopoulos enough funding to restore its smooth operation, secure salaries for its workers and cover basic operating expenses until restructuring is completed, Sklavenitis said in a statement. UK: Costcutter Group signs a deal with Parcelly
Costcutter Group signed a deal with mobile click & collect newcomer Parcelly. The convenience group includes nationwide outlets Costcutter, Mace, Kwiksave, Simply Fresh and Supershop.
