The leftover box, enjoying food without waste

From now on restaurateurs can buy the Beste-Reste-Boxen, German for the best leftover box, from METRO Cash&Carry. The boxes are developed by the German “Food too good to bin!” (Zu gut für die Tonne!) initiative and Greentable, an information portal for sustainable catering.

In addition Christian Schmidt, the German Minister of Food and Agriculture states: “It is my goal to decrease food waste by 50% in 2030. In restaurants, food services and catered events 23.6 kilos of food is wasted per guest per year. We can’t tolerate the amount of good food being wasted. We want change and we are going to get change. Now the leftover box can be bought from METRO Cash & Carry all over Germany, an important step in the reduction of food waste.”

Famous chefs support the action. Restaurant coach, Christian Rach states, ”The doggy bag was yesterday, enjoying food without leftovers is today. The box is really easy to take with you, and throwing it away is a real shame. Not only because of the high quality contents, but also think of the time, energy and love that we have invested in the box. So dear guest, ask your restaurant for the food you didn’t finish, and dear chef be active in offering your guests this wonderful product so that they can take their leftovers home.”
