The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Jose Manuel Hernandez, reaffirmed the commitment made by the government of President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski to double agricultural exports to 10 billion dollars by the year 2021.
In a meeting with the directors of the Association of the Guild of Agricultural Producers of Peru (AGAP), he noted that agricultural exports amounted to more than 5 billion dollars last year, and that they were the second biggest generator of foreign exchange after mining.
"Our goal is to double agricultural exports and achieve sales of more than 10 billion dollars by the year we celebrate our bicentennial as a republic," he said.
In that regard, he said, the Minister of Agriculture would continue to promote the access of a greater number of Peruvian products to the world markets because the sector contributed to the generation of productive employment.
"Thus, our government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation will continue to support agricultural exports, especially through health systems with Senasa" he said.
According to the Minister of Agriculture, in the first half of this year (January-June), agricultural exports totalled 2.234 million dollars and reached 136 countries, with sales of various products such as avocados, bananas, and blueberries, among others.
