Cucumber price expected to drop

According to a report from Agriculture China, cucumbers are the must-have vegetable for Chinese consumers during the summer season. From this summer until autumn, its price will continue to rise. Especially as, during the past week, the price of cucumbers has increased by over 80%.

As for the driving forces behind such a drastic increase: firstly, the open-air cucumber output went down significantly, which led to a price increase of over 200%. This also impacted the price increase of greenhouse cucumbers. Secondly, summer cucumbers have almost come to the end of their season, the autumn cucumbers have not yet come to market and, as a result, the limited market supply has led to the continuous price rise.

Generally, cucumbers can be bought during all four seasons, and the market demand is quite huge. When this year's rainy season diminishes, and the extreme hot weather starts to abate, the cucumbers' market supply will go up and prices will drop accordingly.
