The Government of Ecuador stated it would open a trade office in Iran in order to promote the competitive advantages and attractiveness of Ecuador.
"We want smart investment that creates jobs, develops technology, added value products, and that promotes the linkage of all the production chain. Our efforts are aimed at generating sustainable investment and sustainable exports," said the director of the Pro Ecuador Institute for the Promotion of Exports and Investments, Silvana Vallejo, at an economic forum held in Quito.
The opening date of the office is still unknown, but according to authorities, the opening should take place in the coming weeks.
In turn, the vice president of the Chamber of Commerce of Iran, Farhad Sharif, reiterated his continued support to "extend cooperation with Ecuador within the framework of public-private exercises that allow overcoming distances and costs, and that generate scientific and technological exchanges for both nations."
According to data from the International Trade Centre, Ecuador is the ninth country in the region to export to Iran and it is currently ranked as the seventh nation in Latin America and the Caribbean to receive non-oil exports from Iran.
Ecuador mainly exports bananas, processed foods, and flowers to Iran while importing products related to tools and the metalworking industry.
