Durian price hits record high in recent years

Currently the majority of durian in the Chinese market comes from the south of Thailand. Impacted by the climate, the durian harvest volume decreased over 30%, and its taste is not as good as previous years. Despite of this, fruit dealers from south and north China swarmed to Thailand for durian purchase, which lead to the price ramping in the market. Looking into the reasons behind, on one hand, China does not grow durian, and currently only fresh durians from Thailand are allowed to be imported to China, on the other hand, China encourages the revenue and volume increase of import trade, and the increase of durian sales also pushed the price to the current record high level.

Based on the statistics fro Jiangnan Fruits & Vegetable Wholesale Market, the durian price increased from the cheapest 180 Yuan to 280-340 Yuan this year, with over 50% price increase, which is the highest price in 6 years.
