Peru: The avocado is the most exported agroindustrial product

During the last six months, the avocado was the flagship agricultural export product as its exports amounted to 250.2 million dollars, i.e. 32.4% more than in the same period last year. As a result, avocados are now part of the country's top ten export products, a list that includes minerals, such as copper and gold, for example.

According to Comex Peru, avocado shipments increased to 134,180 tons, thanks to the production led by La Libertad, Ica, and Lima, and were sent to 22 destinations, mainly the Netherlands (44.3%) and Spain (21.6%).

Even though the export value fell by 27.4% between 2011 and 2015, agricultural exports grew by 12.8%. In addition, agricultural exports accounted for 11.4% of total exports during the same period and to 13.6% by June this year, amounting to 2.105 million dollars in the first half of 2016, i.e. 2.3% more than in the same period of last year.
