Fabio Contreras, of Ocati:

"We are committed to supplying exotics to our customers all year round"

A continuous supply of fruits all year round is ideal for any importer, but it is also a difficult task for the producer. On the basis of this concept, Ocati, a Colombian exporter of exotic fruits, is working on a new supply strategy which will be complemented with the production of neighbouring countries. "This is an initiative born in response to the needs of our customers, who require our products more or less regularly throughout the year. Each country has its own production period, so the only option is to produce in other countries that will complement our local production" affirms Fabio Contreras, of Ocati.

"We have been enforcing this strategy with almost all our products and it has been giving good results from the start. For example, we have avocado production in Peru and Colombia; the first Peruvian crops are already underway for export. When we have no availability in Colombia, we can switch to Peru, and thanks to the constant control of our processes, the fruit quality remains stable, regardless of its origin."

"We apply the same approach to Ecuadorian and Colombian pitahaya. As although this exotic fruit of Colombian origin has enjoyed a great position for more than 10 years in the Asian market, the Ecuadorian fruit has entered with great force in recent years. To this we can add the expansion of our product range with fresh and dried physalis," states Contreras.

"Our new goal is to enter Asian countries, as, Malaysia and Indonesia, due to the fact, that we aim to improve our international presence. In our 28 years' experience, Ocati has managed to enter more than 27 countries worldwide."

"As part of this strategy, this year we will actively participate in the fair Asia Fruit Logistica as exhibitors, where we will present new products and a new initiative for the consumption of dragon fruit, which perfectly fits the way in which the Asian market consumes this fruit," concludes the spokesperson of the Colombian company.
