Honduras expects to export up to 100 containers of melon to Japan

Honduras could export up to one hundred containers of melon to Japan next season, stated the Coordinator of the agribusiness unit of the Ministry of agriculture and livestock (SAG), Francisco Herrera.

He stated that they had already sent their first container, which arrived in very good conditions, to Japan and that that placed the country in a good position at the international level.

The official said the United States was one of the country's strongest markets and that it was now joined by the Asian market.

He said there were Japanese businessmen interested in the cacao from Honduras, as well as in coffee, and in other products.

He also said producers were earning about $2,500 dollars for a container of melons.

Finally, he acknowledged that the Asian country had managed to develop a big variety of melons.
