Vitor Falanghe Carvalho - Jaguacy Avocado Brazil

"Last shipment of avocados to Europe this month"

“The Brazilian avocado harvest is from February to October. However, the export crop ended in May already. Our company continued to supply the foreign market (Europe) and our last shipment will be this month with only six containers. This season the El Niño had a big effect with too much rain during the summer period, which affected our crop resulting in a 20% reduction in production”, starts Vitor Falanghe Carvalho from Jaguacy Avocado Brazil.

Vitor is positive about this year's season. He explains that Brazil doesn't export to the United States, however the European market performed well this season. “The market managed to maintain good prices throughout the season. Europe received big volumes of avocado from Peru, but even with these volumes the market continued to be favorable with no significant decline in prices. There is always a high fruit supply in Europe during the months of June and July, imported from countries such as Peru and South Africa. Yet prices were fair and maintained, even during these months.”

“We notice a growth in the avocado market. Jaguacy as a company will expand their production area in the coming years with 200 hectares. There are some potential markets to be opened for the Brazilian avocado, such as China, Chile, Argentina, Japan and the United States. Also the European market has shown an important growth in the consumption of avocado and as well the Brazilian market itself is growing tremendously each year.”
