Gabriel Wasserman, of Gramm Agropecuaria:

"Argentina: "Varietal changes will boost our blueberries in Asia"

A couple of weeks after the start of the export of Argentinian blueberries, forecasts are becoming clearer and prospects are good. "We have started harvesting the first fruits, with excellent quality. The leading varieties in terms of volume are still the Emerald and Snowchaser, while others, such as the Primadonna, San Joaquin or Farthing, among others continue to grow. This year, the production is expected to be favourable and demand will keep growing as in recent years," affirms Gabriel Wasserman, of Gramm Agropecuaria.

Also, it is worth noting that Argentina has been switching to new varieties in recent years, allowing many producers to have a longer export window, starting in mid-August and lasting until early December. Prospects for this year are positive and a season within the usual parameters is expected. "Last season, we obtained a higher quality product, very firm and with a very good post-harvest. We estimate that we will now have better results, mainly due to the introduction of new varieties, such as the Ventura, Chickadee, Kestel and Flicker, with which we are pioneers in our country. Since that we are a fully integrated company in field, logistics, packaging and refrigeration, we can guarantee a constant quality control," states Wasserman.

"Given the weather conditions, we expect growth at national level. The largest volume will correspond to the new varieties, since quality is still the most appreciated aspect by consumers. And if we consider that the varieties with the larger calibres are the most demanded by Asian countries, the protocol with China, which should be signed in mid-November, would give a big boost to the opening of markets for our fruit," concluded the spokesperson.

Gramm Agropecuaria will be present at this year's Asia Fruit Logistica Hall 3b J-01
