China reduces tariffs on Russian fruits
The inspection and quarantine bureau of Heilongjiang published on 29 July that it was influenced by the devaluation of the ruble. Moreover, Russia promotes the development of the far east. So, at the biggest fruit and vegetable collecting and distribution center for Russia, located in the port of Suifenhe, the export has dropped massively. In the first half of 2016 the export of fruits and vegetables had a value of 23 million USD. That is a decrease of 66% compared to the same period last year.
Fluctuations in the exchange rate of the ruble decreases the purchasing power of the Russian consumers. Russia also implements several agricultural policies for THE development of the far east. This means large sums of funds go towards the agricultural products of the far east to promote the development of local vegetable cultivation and squeeze the market space for vegetables from China. The result is a reduced Russian demand for Chinese vegetables.
In the past few years the export of Chinese vegetables to Russia showed no significant surge in quality or structure. When faced with competition, the Chinese vegetables are equal in quality to the Russian vegetables. This also influences the export of Chinese vegetables to Russia.
