UK: Waitrose first supermarket to stock British morello cherries

Waitrose is the first UK supermarket in 20 years to stock fresh British morello cherries. British morello cherries are harvested on family-run Boxford Farms in Suffolk, ready for their launch into Waitrose this week.

Morello cherries are not often grown as a crop in the UK anymore and the trees are more commonly used in orchards as a pollinator. They are a very seasonal fruit and only available for a few weeks a year.

Say's Nicki Baggott, Waitrose Fruit Buyer, "With their vibrant skin, flesh and juice, and a rich flavour, they are perfect for pies, cakes and preserves and work especially well with chocolate."
