Testing field of energy producing plants opened

In March the Province of Noord-Brabant announced they were subsidising a testing field of Plant-e. This Living Lab was opened with celebration on Thursday July 14.

Living Lab
With the help of a subsidy from the Province of Noord-Brabant a Living Lab will be set up on the grounds of Nyrstar in Budel to test the newest Plant-e system. This tube system should be suitable in the future to produce electricity on a larger scale with existing wet areas. Specific research will be done in Noord-Brabant into the combination of wet nature and electricity production. Plant-e is an example of a potential earning model that can contribute to financing the Natuurnetwek Brabant in the long term. The initiative also fits well into the vision and strategy for sustainable energy as is formulated in the provincial Energy Implementation Programme.

Subsidy
The costs of the field test are budgeted at € 452,000. The province of Noord-Brabant is financing 60% of this (€ 273,900).

Noord-Brabant is the second province to invest money in the further development of the tube system. Previously, the province of Zuid-Holland spent money on a similar test within the project "N470 gives energy." The Living Lab in Budel will be partially used to compare results in different soil types and partially to test longer tubes than in Zuid-Holland.
