First pole for Scherpenhuizen distribution centre

Last week the first pole was driven into the ground for the new building location for Scherpenhuizen. This year a modern distribution centre and office will be built right next to the current location on industrial estate Acht-Noord in Eindhoven. The DC has a total floor surface of 40,000 m2, consisting of a 34,000 m2 hall and a 6,000 m2 mezzanine. There will also be a 3,200 m2 CO2 neutral office, all on a plot of 70,000m2. The completion of the building is planned for mid February 2017. Scherpenhuizen is aspiring to a Breeam-Outstanding score for the building, high achievable, five star sustainability certification.

"At Scherpenhuizen we don't always talk about it a lot, we do it. Working intelligently is looking at your costs sensibly, we do this from a social and sustainable mindset," says director Martin Scherphuizen. Energy efficient and socially responsible business. We are investing slightly more but with an acceptable payback time."

The new distribution centre will be fully LED lit and doesn't have a gas connection. Martin Scherpenhuizen: "Our cooling runs on solar panels with which we are self sufficient for most of the year. The high value residual heat from the cooling is being used to foresee our crate washing facility, the low value residual heat is used to heat up the office."

"We are now located at three locations due to lack of space. Our new building allows us to centralise our logistical operation and production processes again and organise them even more efficiently. The importance of our staff, our customers and our growers is foremost in this."
