Season of fresh barhi dates started

The season of fresh barhi dates will start next week in Israel. The season will last until September. The volumes that are coming from Israel will be stable.

"Growers of the barhi dates are on the market a long time. The short season of the fruit prevents a massive entry of new growers," explains Yoav Nakash from Galilee Export. "Considering the stable supply market prices will also follow the trend of the last years."

Although there is a stable volume, Galilee Export will double its volumes this year. "We expect an increase in the demand on the European market as barhi dates are a new product which may help to differentiate the assortment for the retailers."

The bright yellow branches of barhi dates are eye catching. "The exotic summerfruit has a taste that is reminiscent of caramel and brown sugar." Barhi are exported mostly from the Middle East and they are traditionally offered on branches.

The shelf life of the fruit is around 30 days when stored at 1-2 °C. Barhi dates from Israel are available for direct shipment by air. Galilee Export company also offers shipments from its stock in Europe.
