Guatemalan green and yellow beans in good supply

Both French beans and yellow French beans coming from Guatemala are in good supply for foodservice, retail and club stores this season. “We have good supplies of both Southern Selects French beans and Southern Selects Yellow French beans. Southern Specialties will have good supplies of both types French beans,” said Charlie Eagle of Southern Specialties. “Chefs and consumers prefer the flavor and texture of the tender French beans over larger, stringy, green bean varieties.

In terms of consumption, Eagle says Southern Selects markets its French beans in a variety of pack sizes and styles in order to provide convenience for chefs and consumers. They also recently introduced a combination pack for bulk asparagus. Each box contains an attractive mix of green, purple and white asparagus bunches.

Summer months to tend to be a slower time for bean imports, however the category is healthy. “We continue to see growth in the category,” said Eagle. “However, the summer season is, typically, slower due to seasonal local vegetable options at low prices.”
