Richard Kruijer, Tuindersbelang:

"Old and new white cabbage are in each other's way"

"There is demand for white cabbage, but also still sufficient stock. The prices in autumn and winter were good, which meant that everyone invested in being on time by planting under cover. This new harvest is now ripe and can be harvested, but the old stock is in the way of the new cabbage," says Richard Kruijer of Tuindersbelang from Warmenhuizen, active in the mediation of cabbage.

"You can sell winter vegetables fine in the summer. You can continue with the old cabbage until September, although the expectation is that the sales in August will reduce. The demand for the old cabbage mainly comes from Western Europe. Most goes to the United Kingdom and France, supplemented by some export to Italy and Spain," continues the trader. "The price of the white cabbage is at too low a level. The sales of red cabbage have been a lot better all season, but that's a very different market. The red cabbage is going quickly and the price has been at a stable level for a while."
