Vitacress to invest £4m in its UK salad business

Vitacress, one of Europe’s leading suppliers of fresh herbs and salads, has announced it will invest £4m to expand the intake operations at its St Mary Bourne salads factory. Work will commence this autumn and complete during 2017.

Once the new facility is fully operational, Vitacress is proposing to close its current operations at Amesbury in Wiltshire and the company has entered consultation with its employees to accommodate this closure and changes to working patterns and shift structures required at St Mary Bourne.

Toby Brinsmead, CEO, said: “Two years ago we started an investment programme to support our ambition to be leaders in our core markets of fresh herbs and salads. In 2016 we completed a £6m investment in Chichester, West Sussex, creating the UK’s leading fresh herbs facility and this new investment in our St Mary Bourne factory is the next step to ensure that we remain competitive and continue to provide the best produce available in the rapidly evolving salads market.”
