Mexico: Tamaulipas to export 30,000 tons of lime

This year, producers expect to export 30,000 tons of Italian lime to US and European markets. The harvest in the central region of the state of Tamaulipas begins in August.

Moreover, this activity generates more than 35 million dollars in profits for the sector, which creates more than 200 permanent and 2,000 temporary jobs in different packing plants in the region.

Humberto Ramirez Vazquez, deputy director of Federal Plant Health, stated that this activity would revive the economy of the state's central region.

Tamaulipas has health levels that allow it to export a large part of its lime production to various countries, through the packing plants in the entity.

Fortunately, the price per ton is currently reaching interesting values, it is slightly higher than it was last year and producers think that will help them surpass their goals. This production generates significant profits, which allow reviving the region's economy, so this year producers are seeking to increase sales abroad.

Most of the production is shipped to the United States, as this market has a high demand for this fruit because soft drink companies use it to manufacture their products.
