“Continue to work on making the chain sustainable”

Hoogstraten presents third sustainability report

Coöperatie Hoogstraten, previously Veiling Hoogstraten, presents its third GRI sustainability report. The year 2015 was a special year, because the seeds were sown for a redefinition of brand policy. During an intense process, identity and values of the cooperative were renamed. At the start of 2016, the new name and matching branding were unveiled, but the report still talks about Veiling Hoogstraten.

Report
In a recently published report the cooperative gives an insight into its social commitment, environmental activities and progress. In twelve chapters, the report discusses various topics, ranging from energy, waste management, sustainable mobility, personnel and social engagement. Both goals and results, as well as future challenges, are discussed.

The report shows a sharp increase in product sales, earning them a new record. Another highlight is the increase in the share of solar power. The existing installation was expanded by 3,180 solar panels. Furthermore, a significant investment into human development was made, for example, training increased by 30 per cent in 2015. The complete sustainability report of 2015 and its accompanying annual account are available for inspection at www.hoogstraten.eu

CSR charter
On Friday, 17 June 2016, Coöperatie Hoogstraten was awarded with a CSR charter for the fourth time for its sustainability efforts. The presentation of this charter is the peak of a year-long project, during which actions were taken that had a positive impact on personnel, environment or business activities.

“After a successful CSR audit in which the statutory requirements were checked thoroughly, we were given the green light to operate around a number of action items for a year. With this charter, we wish to formalise our commitment to society. We committed ourselves to, besides three environmental actions, also realising three human-centred actions and three community-related actions. The efforts were judged by an independent team of experts.”

Implementation
“However, we will not rest on our laurels now, immediately after the award ceremony we, along with several other companies, have underwritten a declaration of intent to also work on a number of points and to implement these into our organisation in the coming year. Together with producers, buyers and suppliers we will continue to work on making the fruits and vegetables chain more sustainable.”
