"Mart Valstar: "Brexit is an unwise decision with two losing parties"

Best Fresh Group researches start office in UK

"I think that the outcome is a bad thing," this is the reaction of manager Mart Valstar of Best Fresh Group in the Volkskrant about the Brexit. Valstar is a family business, 15 to 20% of their trade is with England. Every week dozens of trucks go back and forth to the UK, the sales team Great Britain has six members.

"Brexit is an unwise decision with two losing parties. If the exchange rate of the pound drops any further, it results in low prices for fruit and vegetables here and higher prices over there. We only have a small loss, but the problem is more significant for the Dutch producers. And for the British consumer as well, only the English producers profit from this decision but that is only a small group. The British are very economical, no big spenders. I do not say this because it will hit us hard, there will be more producers in England, which means more business for us. We are thinking about starting an office there."

"I'm saying this because I think that a referendum is the wrong way to decide over something that is this important. This was not about the EU, but about frustrations about refugees and political power. I really hope that the Brits look at it again. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but they might not go through with it," says the manager of Best Fresh Group.
