China: Early Shandong apples ready for harvest

The early-ripe apples of Linyi in Shandong province are ready for harvest. This is the first harvest of the 2016 apple production season.

According to local fruit farmers, the apples are an imported variety. The early-ripe apples are bi-coloured. Normally they go on sale in mid of July for a month. It is the earliest apple variety of the season in China.

When the apples are just harvested, they are firm and sweet. After 4 to 5 days at room temperature, they start to go soft. The production area and production volume are currently not that big. The variety qualifies as a small-brand apple. The next variety to be harvested is Gala. And this at the end of July, with a supply time until September. The harvest of Gala apples is the turning point for big apple brands in China. After Gala, other big varieties one by one all go on sale.
